Technology Platform

The hardware, network and software baseline we support. Built to keep your environment secure, compliant and warranty-covered.

To support your environment effectively, we maintain a minimum standard for hardware, network and software. The list below is what we expect to see on day one of an engagement, and what we ask clients to maintain over time.

The list evolves. We update it as technologies age out and new ones get tested. If any of your current equipment doesn't meet the standards on day one, we will work with you on a phased plan to bring your environment into alignment, scoped to your budget and timeline.

For items that fall outside the standards, we use our judgment on what we can and cannot reasonably support. Out-of-standard items may be billable separately, or in some cases excluded from coverage entirely. We always flag this in advance.

Hardware Requirements

Servers

  • Less than 5 years old
  • Running a supported operating system with proper licensing
  • Covered by manufacturer or third-party warranty

Desktops and Laptops

Business-class:

  • HP Elite, Pro, or Z series
  • Dell Optiplex, Vostro, or Precision
  • Lenovo Think or Carbon lines
  • Other (If recommended and provided by Atticus Rowan)

Additional Requirements:

  • Solid-state primary drive
  • Intel Core i5 processor or equivalent
  • Less than 3 years old, OR less than 5 years old and covered by manufacturer or third-party warranty
  • Windows 11 Pro or higher with proper licensing
  • Good physical condition

Network

  • Fortinet Firewall w/Active Subscription (Atticus Rowan will provide Fortinet in all cases there is not an active Fortinet with subscription already present)
  • Cisco, Cisco-Meraki or UniFi enterprise-grade switches and access points
  • Modern, functional wiring, Cat5e or better
  • Network room or area with sufficient space to work and cooling

Software

  • Supported versions of all installed software
  • All software must be appropriately licensed
  • Line of Business applications must be covered by active support agreement with development company

Approved Software

The list below is the software we cover by default on managed endpoints. Other software can still be installed; it's just that support requests for non-listed software are scoped on a case-by-case basis.

  • Google Chrome
  • Adobe Reader and Acrobat

Disallowed Software

The categories below get actively flagged and removed from managed endpoints. We take our role as your IT department seriously, which means we reserve the right to remove any application, script or file that we or our security tools view as a risk.

The list evolves over time as we work together.

  • P2P or file-sharing software (Limewire, BitTorrent and similar)
  • System tune-up and driver update utilities (Slimware, Iolo, Ashampoo and similar)
  • Third-party anti-virus or security products (AVG, MalwareBytes and similar)
  • Remote access software outside our managed stack (TeamViewer, GoToMyPC, LogMeIn and similar)
